  • Register seafarers, develop and maintain seafarers’ data base
  • Engage, discharge and attend to the welfare of seamen
  • Resolve maritime labour issues
  • Implement good Occupational, Health and Safety Practices
  • Examine documents for the issuance or endorsement of seafarers certificates, identify documents and discharge books etc
  • Monitor the activities of shipping agents, freight forwarders and similar shipping service providers for the purpose of regulation
  • Document seafarers’ engagement or discharge in accordance with the Ghana Shipping Act and related instruments
  • Ensure that ships comply with the approved manning scales
  • Provide data for the registration of seafarers
    • Issue seafarers discharge books and certificates at the ports
  • Settle disputes between seafarers and masters/owners of ships in accordance with the Ghana Shipping Act and the Ship’s articles
  • Ensure the implementation of good Occupational, Health and Safety Practices instituted by the Authority and other agencies
  • In collaboration with departments of the Authority, ensure that ships comply with the relevant international maritime conventions
  • Document seafarers engagement and discharge
  • Monitor ships compliance with approved manning scales
  • Monitor implementation of good occupational Health and Safety Practices
  • Participate in settling disputes between seafarers and their masters
