The office of the Registrar of Ships is responsible for establishing and maintaining a register to be known as the Ghana Register of Ships in accordance with the Ghana Shipping Act 645 of 2003.

Other duties include:

  • Receive and process applications for the registration of ships
  • Register ships and license vessels below 24m and 15 tons in accordance with provisions of the Ghana Shipping Act, 2003(Act 645)
  • Register mortgages and ensure proper marking of ships including carving notes and IMO numbers and assign call sign etc
  • Keep proper ships /vessels documentation and data base
