Potters Village Orphanage visits Ghana Maritime Authority.

Aug 07, 2018

A delegation of 5 management staff and18 children from the Potters Village Home at Dodowa on August 6, 2018, paid an appreciative visit to the Ghana Maritime Authority to show gratitude for the support received.

Madam Jane Irina Adu, the mother of the Home thanked the Director General and staff for the kind gesture extended to her home. According to her, the Ghana Maritime Authority has given more than what they receive annually. Presenting a citation and receipt to the Director General, Madam Adu indicated that giving to the needy in the society is like lending to God who is faithful to repay. She added that the citation cannot be compare to the support her orphanage received but that it is an appreciative token that represents their gratefulness.

Mr. Kwame Owusu, the Director General, accepting the citation responded that as a steward of the Nation and Government, he deems the donation as a responsibility to ensure that all the people of this nation; especially the less endowed share in the nation’s wealth without expecting anything in return.

He advised the children to make use of the shelter provided and “have assurance that opportunities abound to all regardless of where you are born and under any given circumstances, it is up to you to move within the system”.  He continued to say that having money or good parenting does not always guarantee a successful life. He encouraged the children to liberate themselves, and not to enslave themselves because of the present situation. He continued to say that people are in bondage not necessarily having physical fetters and chains holding them, but limiting one’s own abilities and scope are enslavement in itself. He further encouraged the children to have dreams and ensure actualization of them.

To the teachers and care givers, he appreciated their efforts and added that they should have an open heart knowing the challenges they have accepted and that they should not under any circumstance transfer their personal frustrations and pain to the children.

He congratulated Mama Jane for her courageous initiative.

It will be recalled that the Ghana Maritime Authority on July 19, 2018, visited the Christ Foster Home located at Dodowa in the Shai-Osudoku District and the Frafraha Orphanages in the Adentan Municipality and donated 40 bags of rice, 10 gallons of cooking oil, 12 boxes of noodles, assorted drinks and biscuits, including an amount of GHC35, 600.

The donation forms part of the Authority’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), it also served as a climax of activities to mark the end of the 2017-2018 National service year for the 35 personnel that served the nation at the GMA. The purpose was to instill in the young generation the act of giving back to the society which happens to be the basis for the National Service Scheme.
