The Ghana Shipping Act, 2003 (Act 645) mandates the Authority to implement Ghana's flag state responsibilities by ensuring that ships registered to fly the Ghana flag are seaworthy and their operations comply with standards and regulations in force.

In 2016, one hundred and sixty eight (168) ships comprising one hundred and thirty two (132) fishing vessels and thirty six (36) cargo/supply vessels were surveyed and issued with certificates. Seventy four (74) ships were surveyed by the Authority's Surveyors and seventy (70) were surveyed by GIMES whilst twenty four ships were surveyed the Authority and GIMES surveyors jointlyone hundred and sixty eight (168) ships comprising one hundred and thirty two (132) fishing vessels and thirty six (36) cargo/supply vessels were surveyed and issued with certificates.
